Delete your account
Last updated 24 October 2026
First, cancel any subscription
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription, because the billing is held by Stripe (on the website), Apple, or Google, not by your account.
- Bought on this website: in the app, go to Settings, Manage Subscription, Cancel subscription. The app will not delete an account while a website subscription is still set to renew, so that you are not charged for an account that no longer exists.
- Bought on iPhone, iPad or Android: cancel in the App Store or Google Play. The terms say where.
If you still have the app
This is the fastest route and it takes effect immediately. Open Château, go to Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm. If you have been signed in for a long time, you may be asked to sign in again first, which is a safety check rather than a problem.
If you no longer have the app
Send an email to from the address you signed up with, with the subject Delete my account. We will delete it and confirm by reply, normally within two business days and always within 30 days.
We ask you to write from the address on the account because that is how we know the request is really yours. If you no longer have access to that address, write anyway, and we will find another way to verify it.
What gets deleted
- Your sign-in and your account record, including your settings and reminder preferences.
- Your learning progress, placement results and review schedule, for every language.
- Every flashcard you have saved.
- The days you studied, how you found us, the codes you entered, and any problem reports you sent.
- Our copy of your subscription history.
This cannot be undone. There is no way to restore progress after deletion, and signing up again with the same email gives you a new, empty account with no new free trial.
What is kept, and why
- A free trial record. A one-way hash of your email address (it cannot be turned back into the address) and the date your trial ended, so the trial cannot be claimed again and again. It is used for nothing else.
- Payment and tax records. Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple and Google keep records of payments, and we keep the tax records the law requires.
- Referral payment records. If you joined with a group or referral code and paid, a record of each payment (amount, date, code, and a random ID no longer linked to any account), so we can account for the fees we pay the group.
- Anonymous totals. Daily totals across all learners, such as how many answers to a drill were correct, which never identified you.
- Backups. Your data may persist in encrypted backups until they age out on their normal rotation, usually within 30 days. It is not accessible in the app during that time and is not restored.
The privacy policy has the details.
If you only want to stop the reminders
You do not need to delete your account. Turn reminders off in Settings inside the app, or in your phone's own notification settings for Château.
